More Hotels Needed in Bethesda

Just finished looking at an interesting piece in the Gazette that noted an effort by the County to increase the size of hotels allowed in Bethesda. Apparently there is a feeling that factors including the base realignment will conspire to create a strain on our current capacity. What do you think? Do we need large hotels in Bethesda?

Does Anyone Know What’s Happening With This Building?

empty building

I’ve always kind of liked this building on Hampden Lane (see below), as a more traditional structure among the larger modern buildings of more recent years.  It’s been empty for a long time though, and wondering if anyone knows what the story is?  There’s a vehicle parked outside, which suggests something is happening…

Home of Former Washington Wizard on Sale for $4.5 million

If you are in the market for a HIGH end home may want to take a look at Antwan Jamison’s Bethesda property that has hit the market for $4.5 million. The blog “Waiting for Next Year” has a fair bit of info (and some fun pics) — here is a taster:

Deemed a “custom beauty,” this 12,000-square foot home allegedly comes with an elevator, a four-car garage,  library, hot tub, and the requisite home theater. The basement also features a wine cellar and poker room.  All of it can be yours for a cool $4.5 million.

  • improve the pedestrian and bicycling environment
  • promote sustainable development

Smart Growth for Rockville Pike

As readers of this blog know we like the smart growth strategy that has been developed to regenerate/ green and generally improve Bethesda “north” aka White Flint @ Rockville Pike.

The NYT has a nice feature outlining the project on their site at the moment. It doesn’t provide many new details but captures the general parameters and challenges of the effort. Well worth a read….

Office Space for Rent

office for rent

I’ve always liked this building on the corner of Woodmont and Edgemoor Lane in downtown Bethesda, probably because it looks so out of place today as a converted old-style house amongst a jungle of modern office buildings and condos.  If I was looking for a Bethesda office to rent this place would be the business!
