Farmers Markets

A couple of days ago an older gentleman visiting the area commented to me that he was really impressed with the different markets/ farmers markets we have here in Bethesda. It struck me as an important comment because the farmers markets and other markets we have here in Bethesda have become such a key part of our community that we almost take them for granted.

So I, for one, will be making an extra effort to appreciate these wonderful outdoor areas and will be looking to check them all out in the coming weeks and reporting back on the best deals and other nice features to be found.

If you pop into one of them in the coming days/ weeks, drop us a line with your impressions.

Price of a Parking Ticket in Bethesda

We received this email/ letter from a reader and believe that their intention was to spark a discussion on this issue. Please read and let us know what you think:

Message Body:
Sent to Montgomery County Council Members:

Good Morning,

Yesterday evening I parked in a BETHESDA parking garage across the street from the Louisiana Kitchen (where I dined with a couple of my friends).

At 7:00 PM, I filled the meter with $2.00 worth of quarters to secure two hours of parking.  When I returned to my vehicle, I had a $45.00 parking citation on my windshield.  The ticket was issued at 9:01 PM.

Yes, I was delinquent by one minute and my total cost for parking in BETHESDA reached $47.00.  Parenthetically, photo-enforced speeding tickets cost less!  And I thought speeding was more dangerous!?!  I’m wondering if any of you have considered the deleterious impact that these extravagant fines are having on BETHESDA businesses.  Specifically, fewer restaurant customers and fewer parking meter customers.

I also wonder if you have thought about less draconian and more enlightened approaches to handle parking violations.  It probably goes without saying that I am far less inclined to have dinner in BETHESDA than ever before.

Finally, I suspect that, with or without broadcasting my story, more and more people are reaching the same conclusion.
