Bethesda to Get a New Tea Shop!

Growing up in the UK, married to a South African and being of Indian origin it is fair to say thatI love a good cup of tea! So, it has got to count as good news that (a) Capital Teas are opening a new tea shop on Bethesda Row (b) they will be serving tea by the cup at this shop. Our friends at Patch have the full story here but this clip was particularly interesting and worth raising a glass to:

“The new location will offer 120 varieties of loose tea. Significantly, it will also sell tea by the cup year round, plus iced tea and tea smoothies in the warmer months.”

Fundraiser for Children’s Inn at NIH

Just saw that the Bethesda Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA Bethesda) announced their next annual Gala in support of the Children’s Inn at NIH. The gala, it seems, is the largest fundraiser for the Inn.

For those of you not familiar with the Inn it is a privately funded hospitality house at NIH. Its mission is to provide a “home away from home” for their seriously ill young residents. Details of the annual fundraiser are as follows:

Date: April 14, 2012
Time:6:30 pm. – Midnight

Doctors and Patients from Walter Reed: Welcome to Bethesda!

All doctors and patients will have been moved from Walter Reed in DC to Bethesda and Ft. Belvoir by tomorrow. Naturally this will have both immediate and long term real estate/ business ramifications for the impacted areas. In Bethesda we are already seeing a spike in housing demand (both rental and sales) and in time DC will see a large plot of land transformed. This article has some interesting details (more on the DC side) and it would be nice to get some feedback from our local Bethesda community regarding this transition. What are you noticing?

Bethesda: An Encouraging Housing Market Reminder

This morning someone sent me an article from the NYT discussing why the DC Metro area real estate market was so strong. There are many good points in the piece and it is worth reading/ taking another look. There is one paragraph in particular that seemed worth highlighting:

“Finally, greater D.C.’s housing market has benefited from its many great mixed-used, walkable neighborhoods, which continue to command a premium even in today’s housing market. Some of the old ones in the city — Georgetown and Dupont Circle, Logan Circle and the U Street Corridor – are well known. But many others, both in the inner-ring suburbs like Alexandria and Arlington, Bethesda and Silver Spring, and even further out in Tyson’s Corner, Virginia and Columbia, Md. – are showing the world the way to rebuild denser, more vibrant suburbs, which attract people and command higher prices.”

It was nice to see our home town referred to so postively in the piece. Of course this is nothing we don’t already know but thought it was worth flagging for you.
