More Info on Symphony Park at Strathmore

Friends, just thought I’d add in a few more details on this North Bethesda Project. It is being developed by Washington, DC based StreetScape and they are hoping to have the first Brownstones ready for delivery by the Spring of 2011. I suspect that there is going to be keen interest from buyers as this project gets closer to completion. Here is some data from Streetscape:

Streetscape’s current signature development project is Symphony Park at Strathmore, an unprecedented new Arts and Nature residential community, connected to the Strathmore Arts Center in North Bethesda, MD. This elegant, green haven is designed in the spirit of the world’s best city neighborhoods. Performances and fine art are literally steps away at Strathmore, and with the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro station also within walking distance, the entire Washington, DC area is accessible in minutes. Symphony Park is uniquely focused on art appreciation, personal health and wellness, and world-class townhome design. The community is surrounded by the best of Montgomery County, Maryland, from shopping in Potomac to the hundreds of restaurants in Bethesda. First home deliveries in Spring 2011.

Please do not hesitate to call me if I can help you get in on this project — cheers!

Potato, Leek and Onion Soup

Our first recipe share entry!

Potato, Leek and Onion Soup: Take a big pile of small potatoes and boil them for 10 minutes. Carefully remove from hot water, run under cold water and remove skins (watch out they will be hot!). Chop into pieces and place back in a large pot. Chop several onions and leeks (remember the green bits on the leeks should be discarded) into tiny pieces, lightly saute in olive oil and black pepper. Throw the onions and leeks into the pot with the spuds. Cover with liquid (3 parts vegetable stock and one part skimmed milk). Get the pot of soup pipping hot and them keep it simmering. Add in a bit of black pepper and some dried basil. Let it simmer for a good long while (taste and check consistency of vegetables). Serve with bread rolls and enjoy!
PS If you are not used to working in the kitchen ask a parent for assistance — you need to be careful with hot liquids etc.

Question About Symphony Park (North Bethesda)

Friends, I suspect that a number of you have driven by the site for the new Brownstone community being built in North Bethesda near Strathmore. Symphony Park at Strathmore bills itself as the first Integrated Arts Community in the Washington area.

I’ve started to look at the plans for the community and the preliminary designs for the homes and am quite impressed. Feel free to share your thoughts below and stay tuned for more info on the project.

PS If you can’t wait and want to talk about the details of the project feel free to call me:

What Can You Do on a COLD day in Bethesda?

Friends,

It is cold outside (feels like Siberia!) and with the wind whipping and the temps plummeting we thought it might be time to swap ideas for keeping warm. Here is our top 5 picks for the day — let us know what you think and feel free to leave your ideas below:

1. Head to Satsuma on Norfolk Ave. for a hot bowl of Ramen. A terrific dinner option on a cold day like today.

2. Pop into the Harp and Fiddle on Cordell for a nice pint of Guinness and a fish and chips.

3. Grab an after dinner seasonal coffee and spend the evening at Barnes and Nobles — and if you don’t like coffee perhaps you should try the caramel salted hot chocolate!

4. Penang’s near Euro Motors serves a wonderful curried potato (and chicken if you want it) soup appetizer with a Malaysian roti bread.

5. Got to Landmark Bethesda Row — grab a hot coco next door and then head in to watch a film.

Sorry for the Light Posting

Friends,

First, let me begin by saying sorry for the light posting the last couple of weeks. I’ve been traveling and work has become super busy recently. However I do think that things will be able to get back on track and look forward to us resuming our virtual community discussions on matters ranging from food to the arts to charitable efforts in the community.

Cheers!
