Friends, just wanted to share some of the things that will be on offer at the Bethesda Central Farmers Market (according to the email they sent out a few hours ago):
BCFM is on this Sunday (May 23, 2010) from
9am – 1pm ON THE PARKING LOT ON
ELM STREET BETWEEN WISCONSIN AND WOODMONT Streets.
Folks, I visited Tragara for the first time yesterday and wanted to share a few thoughts. The upscale Italian restaurant in on Cordell Ave and a colleague’s birthday lunch provided a suitable excuse to sample their food.
First, the good news. The private room reserved for the lunch was nice and allowed the group of 13-14 folks to chat about social and work matters freely and easily. Another plus point was the light lunch that I ordered – a grilled calamari salad which was quite pleasant.
Unfortunately there were a few things that that didn’t works as well at Tragara — one of my colleagues ordered a chicken pasta dish and was not impressed by the quality. Additionally, the bread served before the meal wasn’t particularly good. More generally, and significantly, the service was slow – very slow — and inefficient. What made this issue more surprising was that Tragara was very quiet during the period of time we were there.
Finally it seems that – when the quality of food is “ok” and the service is poor, the prices should not be as high as they are at Tragara. For an upscale place it needs to kick its game up a bit.
Some of the lunch guests were former regulars and felt that Tragara had let its standards slide….here’s hoping they can get back to the top. The grilled calamari suggests they deserve another chance from the Bethesda Actually team.

Kick off the summer season with casual conversation and social networking at The Wine Bar, in the lobby of the Doubletree Hotel in Bethesda, June 3, 5 – 8 pm. Joining us at the Happy Hour will be a delegation of Israeli environmentalists, who are visiting Bethesda Green earlier that afternoon.

Not that it stopped being political but now it looks like it will play a role in the race to be the next Governor. After plumping for rapid bus instead of light rail former Governor, and challenger, Ehrlich stated that:
“You have to be honest with people, and the honesty is the dollars aren’t there”
What do you think light rail or rapid bus for the purple line?
Hi folks, sorry for the light posting today. Hope to get back on track tomorrow. I did want to share this interesting review of Bisro Provence on Fairmont Ave here in Bethesda.
It sounds like a super place to eat:
As the name suggests, the colors in the small dining room run bright and sunny. On a pleasant day, however, you’ll want to sit in the bistro’s handsome courtyard. Open to the sky, the setting is wrapped in stone and stucco walls; abundant greenery and the occasional singing bird soothe the senses.
Have you had a chance to eat there?
It is always wonderful to see local companies doing their bit to support “good works” projects and causes. Today this terrific initiative by Bubbles was highlighted by a loyal customer:
Dear Valued Client,
As you are aware, the tragic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has a far-reaching impact on our environment and on the livelihoods of many families who live on the Gulf Coast. In response to your comments on Facebook, Twitter and our website, we at Ratner Companies, home of Hair Cuttery, BUBBLES, Salon Cielo and ColorWorks, have responded immediately and are passionate about doing whatever we can to help clean up the spill and preserve our environment.
We have an unbelievable natural resource that can help: hair. We are partnering with Matter of Trust, a non-profit organization that uses hair clippings to make booms and mats that have been shown to effectively absorb the oil. A boom is a nylon stocking filled with hair and one large boom can soak up as much as five quarts of oil!
However we need to act fast. The oil is spreading quickly and we are committed to doing as much as possible to aid the clean-up efforts.
How can you help? Stop by any one of our BUBBLES salon locations with your family and friends and get a haircut. We will then collect the hair and send it to Matter of Trust to be made into booms and hair mats. Your hair will go from floor-to-shore in just days!
